Herstera – Where Design Meets Sustainability

Herstera is a garden and outdoor design company committed to the design and quality of every piece it creates. Each season, its team presents a collection of more than 3,000 items, shaped by inspiration gathered from around the world and delivered to professional customers in more than 20 countries. Behind the collection lies a shared goal: to amaze the world, through a vision that brings together innovation, traditional materials and processes, and a deep respect for sustainable design.

From a Family Workshop to a Global Collection

Herstera Garden was founded in the early 1970s by Dieter Hertelt in Germany, as a small factory producing metal latticework and balcony planter supports. In the early 1990s, his son Thomas Hertelt was drawn to the growth and modernity of Barcelona around the time of the Olympic Games, and set out to expand the reach of these products into new markets. In 1992, Jordi Sabaté joined the project as partner and shareholder, bringing new ideas and perspectives that would shape the company for decades to come.

Today, the project carries forward the vision of Jordi Sabaté and Thomas Hertelt, whose different paths crossed to make it what it is. Around them, a dynamic and passionate team with years of experience presents a collection of more than 3,000 items each season, reaching professional customers in more than 20 countries. At the root of it all are the values the company holds closest — cooperation, camaraderie and empathy — which allow the team to constantly innovate, commit to good design and help shape new trends.

Craftsmanship, Nature and Sustainable Design

For Herstera, good design means bringing together sustainability, shape, function, quality and authenticity in every piece. Collections are created using sustainable materials such as clay and natural fibres like rattan and bamboo — natural, renewable resources produced in an environmentally friendly way. Many pieces are made in collaboration with skilled artisans in Vietnam, Indonesia and Tunisia, whose craftsmanship brings a unique character to the collection and connects Herstera to production methods and inspiration from around the world. The result is a range of enduring designs, built to defy passing trends.

This commitment runs through every stage of production. Around 80% of Herstera's products come from natural resources, minimising the use of chemical substances, and 75% of its plastic pots are made from recycled materials. A further 80% of products are made using methods powered by plant energy, such as rice husks. Flat packaging helps optimise space in logistics centres and reduce transport, while the company continues working toward fully ecological packaging, and 70% of its products are already ecologically certified — a figure it aims to grow year on year. As Herstera sees it, pots and planters do more than decorate a space: they introduce nature into it, and help renew the air around it.
