Sunwood – Atmosphere Since 1937
Sunwood® is a Dutch design brand that combines craftsmanship with innovation. What began as a forge has grown into a specialist in stylish outdoor fireplaces, designed and produced in the Netherlands, and built on a family history that stretches back to 1937. Elegance, craftsmanship and durability sit at the heart of every Sunwood fireplace, created to bring atmosphere to any outdoor space.
A Family Legacy Since 1937
Sunwood's story begins in 1937, when Marinus Sunderman started out as a farrier before becoming a decorative blacksmith in Kampen. There, he produced wrought ironwork such as candlesticks, coat racks and lamps, applying the same craftsmanship and imagination that would come to define the family business. His passion for the craft gradually grew into designing and making high-quality products in his own right.
His son, Carino Sunderman, continued this tradition and specialised in ornamental ironwork, including fencing, monumental locks and fittings. Over time, his focus shifted toward designing fireplaces and gas fires, and his first creation — the 'fireball' — laid the foundation for the high-quality outdoor fireplaces that Sunwood is known for today.
Dutch Design, Made for Every Outdoor Space
Every Sunwood fireplace is designed and produced in the Netherlands, with a clear focus on elegance, craftsmanship and durability. Thanks to their mobile, gas-fired design, the fireplaces are just as at home on a private terrace as they are on a catering terrace, bringing atmospheric warmth wherever they're placed. The Sunwood Marino is a popular example: a mobile outdoor gas fireplace with a minimalist design and four glass panels offering a full 360-degree view of the flames, running on standard propane tanks or natural gas.
Beyond the standard collection, Sunwood also offers tailor-made solutions, such as the Flamecore® built-in burner, allowing a fireplace to be adapted to a specific outdoor space or built directly into a custom table. Weatherproof covers and protective roofs complete the range, helping to protect and extend the life of every piece. Customers who bring a Sunwood fireplace into their garden often mention the same things: fast, careful delivery, attentive service, and a fireplace that brings instant atmosphere to their outdoor space.
