Cane-line – Danish Design Meets High Comfort
Cane-line is a name that has come to define comfort in Danish outdoor furniture design. Founded in Denmark in 1987, this family-owned company creates high-quality outdoor and indoor furniture guided by a simple belief: that comfort and aesthetics should never compete, but complete one another. For Cane-line, a chair or a table is never simply a piece of furniture — it is an invitation to unwind, relax, and let an outdoor space become part of everyday life.
A Family Business Built on Craft
Cane-line was founded in 1987 in the small town of Rynkeby, on the Danish island of Funen. More than 35 years later, the company remains a family-owned business, led today by owner and CEO Brian Djernes. What began as a local craft has grown into a defining name in Danish outdoor furniture design, found in more than 100 countries, with dedicated subsidiaries in the United States and Australia.
Life made comfortable is the philosophy at the heart of everything Cane-line creates. Wherever in the world its furniture is found, the company's mission remains the same: to make life more comfortable, and to add lasting value to the places where people unwind and relax.
A Collective of Scandinavian Design Voices
Johannes Foersom and Peter Hiort-Lorenzen (MDD) are two of Scandinavia's most renowned furniture designers, working towards long-lasting value and healthy development for people and their surroundings. Their belief in knowledge, innovation, and quality across every stage of the process produces furniture with an almost architectural sense of flexibility — pieces that feel like small structures in their own right.
Christina Strand (MDD) and Niels Hvass (MAA), known together as Strand+Hvass, belong to a new generation of Scandinavian designers who see design as a tool for improving everyday life, the environment, and even economic growth. Their work is user-centred and rooted in Scandinavian tradition, built on simplicity and well-balanced lines.
Hee Welling and Gudmundur Ludvik, known together as Welling/Ludvik, focus on environmentally conscious design centred on personal experience. Stripping away the unnecessary, they let every detail serve a function, weighing comfort, materials, construction, pricing, and environmental impact in equal measure.
Karl Rüdiger Rossell and Tonny Glismand, the duo behind byKATO, design contemporary, highly usable products for everyday living. Bridging industrial design and high-quality craftsmanship with honest materials and careful attention to detail, they design first and foremost for themselves — a starting point that keeps the process personal and the enthusiasm genuine.
Søren Rose Studio brings a minimalist Scandinavian sensibility into dialogue with a modern, cosmopolitan edge. Based in New York, the studio's raw design style has been refined over many years on the international stage, while still sitting comfortably within Scandinavian design tradition.
For designer Maria Berntsen, every new project begins with an idea that carries nerve, functionality, and identity. She sees design as more than function alone — a dialogue that also carries emotional weight, with success measured by the joy it brings to everyday life. Maria has spoken warmly of her collaboration with Cane-line, pointing to the brand's dedication to quality, longevity, and to creating the best possible products for people.
Cane-line's Own Design Philosophy
Alongside its external collaborators, Cane-line's internal design team works daily on comfort as a core value, believing in an optimal balance between aesthetics and functionality. Every piece is developed in close partnership with the brand's external designers, adding unique products that bring value to everyday life outdoors.
At Cane-line, every piece is imagined with long Scandinavian summer days and nights in mind — furniture designed to complete the atmosphere of an outdoor living experience rather than simply furnish it. Tables are designed to extend the sense of space in the open air, while chairs are left to express a more personal sense of style.
Comfort, Quality, and Responsibility
Across the collection, Cane-line remains focused on quality, innovative technology, and comfort — in both its products and the lives they support. Furniture is made with care for the environment and the well-being of the people who use it, reflecting a belief that great design must also be responsible design, built to last. Responsibility and environmental awareness have long been a natural part of Cane-line's values, woven into the company for many years.
At Hoovon, we share Cane-line's belief that outdoor furniture should do more than furnish a space — it should shape how that space feels, and how comfortably life unfolds within it. We are proud to welcome Cane-line's Danish outdoor furniture design into our curated collection.
